VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAMS QUALIFY FOR THE PLAYOFFS

Well, it's official. The Lambton College men's and women's basketball teams have both qualified for the playoffs and now turn their sights to the weekend of February 23rd and their potential crossover game opponents.

The young Lions of the Lambton College men's team punched their ticket to their fifth post-season birth in six campaigns with a big 93-88 win over Fanshawe.

It was a different feel as the Lions took the court at home for the last time this season on Tuesday night. Normally considered 'senior' night, the Lions didn't trot a single member of the roster to center court. Not that veteran talent mattered much in the end.

Lambton's mix of youngsters has seemed to hit a stride of late as they've reeled off four wins in the past two weeks either in OT or by less than five points.

First and second year players combined for 81 of Lambton's 93 points on the night led by guard Tyvell Peters' 26. Rookie Kardon Edwards, shown in the clip, had 25 to go along with five boards and four assists.

Rookie Deiondre Reid had one of his best games as a Lion as he scored 11, had eight boards and seven assists. Others scoring for Lambton were Jason Watts and Keith Laryea with 10 each, Journee Joseph seven, Dwayne Lambert-Cadore two and Deshaun Kelley two.

The game marked the return of Watts who hadn't seen action since an early matchup at Conestoga.

On the women's side, a post-season spot was a little more of a definate thanks to some great wins earlier this semester. The two biggest were against Sheridan at home and St. Clair on the road for the ladies squad who is led by Christine Fleischer's 14.4 rebounds per game and Morgan Wagg's 12.6 points per game.

Madisyn Campbell sits second in team scoring with 11.9 points per game. The fifth year guard has so far put up 943 career points!

The team is 11-8 on the year.

Both teams travel to Mohawk College this Saturday for their final OCAA West league games.

GOOD LUCK!
