With the Lambton Lions varsity esports team expanding to five different games for the 2018-2019 season, we're thrilled to announce our first ever Rocket League roster.
Ryan Glivar, Foster Mcilmoyle, Yvon Purdy and Mikaele Sebecic become the first four Rocket League varsity players in Lambton College history.
They were quick to get their 2018-2019 season underway with a first-round win in the Tespa Collegiate Rocket League Open Qualifier this past Saturday.
Matched up with Shawnee State University's grey team, the Lions quickly dispatched SSU with a pair of clean sheet victories, 7-0 and 2-0. The following round would not be as favourable for the Lions as they squared off against Sault College. Their first match resulted in a nail-biting 3-2 loss at the hands of Sault College, and they would go on to complete the sweep with a 4-1 win, sending the Lions to the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament.
From there it would be a test of patience for the Lions' Rocket League squad as a trio of forfeits from the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs, the Grits and Glory team from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and the Arbor Esports team from the University of Michigan would send the Lions on to a best-of-3 matchup against Purdue University.
The Lions would shut out Purdue in the first match 3-0, but Purdue would go on to complete the comeback and take the following two matches by scores of 3-1 and 2-1, ending the Lions' chances of qualifying for the Collegiate Rocket League Open this past weekend.
However, the Lions still have a chance to compete this fall with the Collegiate Rocket League's Open Ladder competition later this month.
The Lions' Rocket League squad would compete again on Sunday in ESL's Go4RocketLeague North America Cup #140 tournament. Their opening match would see them square off against the pros from Nitrox where the Lions would go on to lose by a score of 3-1, ending their Sunday early.
The Lambton Lions Rocket League team will compete in ESL again on Sunday Sept. 23 in the Go4RocketLeague North America Cup #141.
