SARNIA – No need to read between the lines here. The Lions have added another talented recruit ahead of September on the diamond.
Catcher Avery Lines has officially committed to Head Coach Greg Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2025 season, and beyond.
Lines is the third member of the 2025 recruiting class for Shortt and the rest of the Lions coaching staff. Lines will join the likes of Breanna Rowe (Port Hope, Ont.) and Lilly Klompstra (Sombra, Ont.) as a newcomer in a Lambton uniform when the 2025 season opens in September.
“I’m mostly excited, but there’s definitely some nerves there, for sure,” said Lines after making her collegiate commitment official inside the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex. “It’s definitely a mix of the two (emotions), but I’m looking forward to what’s to come.”
“I’m looking forward to trying to figure out what I want to do for a career when I’m done school since I’m not 100% sure. I’m also excited to join the Women’s Softball Team and play with some of the girls I’ve played with before.”
Lines, a five-foot-six catcher, comes to Lambton College by way of North Lambton Secondary School in Forest, becoming the latest Eagles alum to join the Lambton Athletics community in recent years.
Outside of high school, Lines played with the Wyoming Lady Wranglers program on the diamond. The Lady Wranglers program has yielded several key recruits for the Lions since the program’s inception four years ago.
For Shortt, he knows the type of player he’s getting in his newest backstop, as he coached Lines over the years with the Lady Wranglers.
“I’m excited to have Avery join our Lions squad,” said Shortt. “I’ve coached her in Wyoming over the years and she has always been a great teammate, so she will be a nice addition to our team.”
“She will help to shore up our catching position, and I anticipate that our pitchers will enjoy working with her behind the plate. She also adds some power to our lineup.”
Academically, Lines will be enrolled in the General Arts & Science Program at Lambton College.
Heading into her first season with the Lions, Lines is looking forward to contributing in any way she can to help the team win. When asked what Lambton fans can expect to see from her on the field, her first response was more of what they can hear versus what they’ll see.
“I’m behind the plate, so I like to talk a lot and just let everybody know what’s going on,” said Lines with a smile. “I like to think I’m a little consistent, but you never know since sometimes things don’t go your way, so you just have to roll with it and see what happens.”
Welcome to The Den, Avery!
