SARNIA – Another Klompstra joins the Lambton community.
Lilly Klompstra (Sombra, Ont.) has officially committed to Head Coach Greg Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2025 season, and beyond.
Klompstra is the first commitment in the 2025 recruiting class for Shortt and the rest of his coaching staff.
“I’m very happy,” said Klompstra after making her commitment official. “I’m very grateful for all the help that I’ve had along the way to get me to this day.”
“I’m really happy to be here at Lambton College with all the great coaches and everybody that’s here to help me.”
Klompstra, a five-foot-one middle infielder, comes to Lambton College by way of Wallaceburg District Secondary School. The Sombra native is the latest in an ever-growing list of former Tartans to trade their WDSS colours for Lambton blue.
In the summer months, Klompstra plays for the Chatham Golden Eagles softball program. She can play either second base or shortstop, bringing another element of versatility to the lineup. A self-described ‘dirtball’ on the diamond, Klompstra says that she’s the type of player who will do whatever she needs to in order to get the job done.
The Klompstra family are no strangers to Lambton College. Lilly’s brother, Logan Klompstra, played for the Men’s Baseball program during the 2023-24 season. Throughout her high school journey, Lilly has taken part in dual credit classes on campus in Sarnia, as well as taking part in a workout with the Women’s Softball Program.
Shortt is excited about adding Klompstra to the mix for the foreseeable future, citing several attributes about her game that will be welcome additions to the group.
“We’re looking forward to having Lilly join our program this fall,” said Shortt. “We have been looking to add depth in the middle infield, and Lilly’s ability to play both spots up the middle does just that for us.”
“She’s a quick player, so we’ll look to utilize her speed on the basepaths, as well as her ability to get on base at the plate. Defensively, she’s not afraid to get dirty and dive for any balls hit in her direction.”
Academically, Klompstra will be enrolled in the Chemical Production & Power Engineering Technology Program at Lambton College.
For Klompstra, there’s a lot to look forward to when September comes around. The combination of staying close to home, studying in the CPET program, and playing Women’s Softball at the collegiate level was the perfect combination for the next chapter of her life.
“From the academic side, I’m excited to get into the CPET program, but it’ll be a lot different than high school,” added Klompstra with a laugh. “Then, playing Softball at the college level is also going to be a lot different than what I’m used to.”
“Overall, I’m excited. I want something new and I like a challenge, so I’m looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead for me here.”
Welcome to The Den, Lilly!
