SARNIA – Injected some speed into the roster.
Tyleigh Winger has officially committed to Head Coach Richard Helps and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2026 season, and beyond.
Winger is the second commit in the 2026 recruiting for the Lions, and the first for Helps as he begins his first season as the program’s Head Coach. Winger will join catcher America Shepherd (Delhi, Ont.) as a newcomer with the Lions when the 2026 season opens in the fall.
“I’m just really excited for the opportunity and to meet the entire team,” said Winger after making her commitment official. “Lambton is a great environment, and the coaches have been so welcoming so far, so I’m looking forward to getting things going here.”
“I’m a very big hustle player on the field and I’ll do whatever I can to help the team win. I’m determined to do my best with softball and in the classroom.”
Winger, a five-foot-six center fielder, comes to Lambton College by way of Sarnia’s Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School, becoming the latest Vikings alum to compete for the Lions at the post-secondary level.
Primarily a centerfielder, Winger also plays second base on occasion, but patrolling center field is her main position. Known as a speedster, both in the outfield and on the base paths, Winger will look to use that to her advantage on both sides of the ball for the Lions in the fall.
On the diamond, Winger plays for the London Lightning U19 Blue program. The Lions have recruited heavily from the Lightning program in recent years, and Winger is the latest talent from the program to choose Lambton College over other institutions in the province for post-secondary academics and athletics.
For Helps, Winger’s combination of speed and her ability to play a key outfield position is a welcome addition to the program moving forward.
“We are excited to add a player like Tyleigh to our roster,” said Helps. “Adding a center fielder with speed fills a hole in our outfield rotation, and she will be able to come in and help our team right away.”
“Tyleigh’s speed will be a big asset for our team, both on offense and on defense.”
Academically, Winger will be enrolled in the Police Foundations Program at Lambton College.
Winger joins a Lions program that will be without five players from last year’s program due to graduation. She will provide some stability in the outfield while giving the team another weapon in the lineup with her speed.
Welcome to The Den, Tyleigh!
