Lambton Men's Soccer, Men's Basketball Add Dual Sport Star Tyler Guppy

SARNIA – Twice as nice.

The 2019-2020 season was an exciting one for both the Lambton Men’s Soccer and Men’s Basketball programs, as both teams made their own headlines during the last season of play in the OCAA.

On the pitch, the Lambton Men’s Soccer program put an end to their 25-year playoff dry spell, advancing to the OCAA Crossover Games on the heels of back-to-back wins to close the regular season, creating a buzz around the program that had been missing for some time.

On the court, the Lambton Men’s Basketball team served as the hosts for the 2020 OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, presented by Kelgor. While they suffered a quarterfinal exit, Lambton College and the program were on full display with Ontario’s best competing for a League Championship.

Looking ahead to the 2021 season and the hopeful return of sport across the OCAA, Head Coaches Adam Lakey (Men’s Soccer) and James Grant (Men’s Basketball) have been frequent travelers on the recruiting trail as they look to fill out their rosters. Both programs will serve to benefit from Lambton’s newest recruit, as the Lions have added a dual-sport talent that will help both programs in 2021 on their quest for OCAA glory.

Tyler Guppy has committed to both the Lambton Men’s Soccer and Lambton Men’s Basketball programs for the 2021 season, adding depth, talent, and versatility to both lineups.

On the soccer field, Guppy joins Travis Dowhaniuk (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) and Max Black (Glasgow, Scotland) in the 2021 recruiting class for Coach Lakey. On the court, Guppy joins Jaheim Foster and Adam Kislinsky (Hamilton, Ont.) in the 2021 recruiting class for Coach Grant.

Guppy, a native of Hamilton, Ontario, comes to Lambton College after a high school career that included stops at Sir Allan Macnab and St. Jean de Brebeuf. He has experience as both a Left Midfielder and Striker on the soccer field, while also adding versatility to the back court rotation on the court with his experiences playing at both the point and shooting guard spots.

“I’m ready to give 120% on and off the field and court,” said Guppy. “I’m on a fighting mission, always trying to get better.”

His list of accomplishments across basketball and soccer speaks for itself. On the soccer field, Guppy advanced to OFSAA in 2018, and racked up one Athlete of the Year award for his efforts on the pitch. On the hardwood, he picked up three league championships, and was named an All-Star on two occasions.

Guppy will be studying Sports & Recreation Management while at Lambton College.

With both the Men’s Soccer and Men’s Basketball programs riding a wave of positive momentum from the 2019-20 season, the 2021 season can’t come soon enough as Coach Lakey, Coach Grant and their respective rosters can’t wait to return to the pitch and court.

Welcome to The Den, Tyler!
