The Lambton Lion's Women's Basketball team has named a new head coach. Rob Kardas, Vice President, Student Success & Campus Services, Lambton College recently announced that David Elsley had accepted the position as head coach of the women's squad for the 2016/2017 season.
Elsley, a high school teacher at St. Patrick's High School, has been the team's interim Head Coach since January 2016. He previously served as the Assistant Coach with the Lambton Lion's Men's Basketball team for the past two seasons.
"We look forward to having Coach Elsley on board with the women's team in a permanent capacity," says Kardas. "His experience as a coach with the Men's team will play a key role in allowing us to take our women's basketball program to the next level. We look forward to watching the women's team develop under his leadership."
The Lambton Lions Women's Basketball team ended the 2015/2016 season on a high note, making their first ever appearance in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) playoffs. Team member Riley Williams also clinched the title of OCAA women's basketball all-time scoring leader.
Those interested in seeing the team in off-season action are invited to stop by Lambton College during their upcoming Spring Open House on Saturday, April 2 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The Women's Basketball team will hit the court at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for a casual scrimmage and a chance for prospective students and their families to meet the team, chat with coaching staff and learn more about the College's Athletics and Academic programs.
