Great Lakes Guard Cayleigh Allen Commits to Lambton Women’s Basketball Program for 2026-27 Season

SARNIA – Another local talent is staying home.

Guard Cayleigh Allen has officially committed to Head Coach Janine Day and the Lambton Women’s Basketball Program for the 2026-27 season, and beyond.

Allen is the fourth member of a talented incoming recruiting class for Day and the rest of the Lions coaching staff. Allen will join the likes of guards Grace MacDonald (Stoney Creek, Ont.), Katie DeLuca (London, Ont.), and Mykenna Spowart (Sarnia, Ont.) as a newcomer with the Lions when the 2026-27 season officially begins in the fall.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity,” said Allen. “I’m excited to play with the girls on the team and continue growing as a basketball player and as a person.”

“I’m looking forward to getting into the college environment. I’m excited to get to know the girls on the team, and to learn new things in my program.”

Allen, a five-foot-six guard, comes to Lambton College by way of Great Lakes Secondary School where she played for the Wolfpack senior girls basketball program this past season. Allen played for the Wolfpack all five years in high school.

With the Wolfpack, Allen was a multi-sport athlete, having also competed for the wrestling and volleyball teams, as well as with the track and field program. This season in track and field, Allen competes in Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump.

For Day, its Allen’s two-way play that stood out to her, along with the level of effort she puts in, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

“We’re excited to sign another local recruit, in Cayleigh (Allen),” said Day. “She is an extremely athletic guard who is not only a tenacious defender, but a threat to attack the rim.”

“Cayleigh comes to Lambton College after playing five years at GLSS. Her commitment to constant improvement and their infectious energy for basketball make them an invaluable addition to our roster.”

When asked to describe herself as a basketball player on the court, Allen initially admitted to some nerves, but the description of her own game mirrored Day’s thoughts on what she brings to the roster.

“(Fans can expect) a lot of laughter and some nerves at first,” added Allen, citing she gets nervous before any game but finds her rhythm once the game starts. “Hopefully, I can bring some great defense, rebounds, and good drives to the net.”

Academically, Allen will be enrolled in the Practical Nursing Program at Lambton College.

Allen joins a Lambton program that is expected to return the bulk of its roster from a season ago. The Lions are coming off a fifth-place finish in the West Division standings during the regular season after posting an 8-8 record. The Lions picked up a road playoff win over George Brown in the Crossover Round before falling to Mohawk in the OCAA Quarterfinals.

The addition of Allen to an already talented back court rotation adds more depth to the roster on both sides of the floor, while bolstering the team’s presence in the paint with her ability to get to the net.

Welcome to The Den, Cayleigh!
